Re: HTFC vs St Albans
Well I'm guessing the lack of activity on here tells the story really.
First half we worked very hard and created plenty of opportunities but couldn't quite find the player in the box or get the shot away.
Second half we looked a little tired and there wasn't the movement off the ball that there was in the first. St Albans appeared to have dropped a little deeper, allowing us to pass across the pitch but not so far forward and waiting for us to make a mistake.
Unfortunately St Albans first goal came from exactly such a mistake where we gave the ball away and they counted swiftly.
We kept going, having most of the play but struggling to break their defence down until Lewis Franklin got brought down in the box was a minute of added time left.
Taylor put the penalty away with ease.
But we were caught napping from the kick-off. St Albans won a free kick half way in our half and from the cross into the box, it was bundled in.
Barely time for the ref to restart.
Our lads can hold their heads up high. They played well against a Step 3 side who looked more like Step 2. Lots of encouraging signs.
I got the impression St Albans were playing within themselves and maybe had more gears available if needed but they gave us space in the first half which allowed us to move the ball well.
Very proud of the team.
Nice to get over 1000 into the ground as well.

Actually Brian, you have summed the match up perfectly,I thought St Albans were just toying with us most of the time allowing us to pass the ball, watching and waiting for an opportunity to pounce which they did twice. We should have made the most of our chances in the first half, second half we tried hard but where was the hard press, too much back and sideways passing, oh for a winger that could run at their number 4.
Re: HTFC vs St Albans
Gutted by the final result, especially as I was half way to St.Albans. My own stupid fault for tempting fate. Now it's the final of Sewing Bee!!!
I agree that St.Albans were waiting for that one chance, which they took, and then were happy to just park the bus. It felt a lot like some of last season, and some of this, where at home we have often had difficulty breaking down the teams that sit back on us. But we persevered and when Taylor put the penalty away I thought the replay was nailed on. At the same point Fulham got a winner against Leeds.
Two minutes later my world was 50% in tatters. I'd have put my house on us having enough to hold out for 2 minutes for the replay! And you all wonder why I am football's biggest pessimist???
Sadly it wasn't to be. The lads did give a good account of themselves and I hope they will believe that they can bounce back on Friday evening against Biggleswade in the Trophy. Fantastic support for us again, and for St.Albans - and a real big boost in the crowd number. One amazing stat is that 91% of those who attended yesterday bought their ticket(s) online. And no queues at the turnstiles, even with that number of people.
And anyway, the real person who is responsible for that defeat is the person who made the decision to stick Alfie in Blue rather than keep him in Grey! Step forward whoever you are!!!
