Got to give credit where it's due, and that was an outstanding second half performance from Hitchin Town FC.
Chris, I have mentioned this previously, and I am pleased that you brought it up in your report.That is;
Can the Manager stop calling the players a 'Group' its so unprofessional, and we must be the only football club in the country to do so, and like I've said before it sounds like you're talking about a1970's Rock Band. The 'Squad' or The 'Team' sounds much more professional, the latter being much more appropriate after yesterday's performance.

To be honest I couldn't care what Michael calls the 'crew', 'collection' or 'posse', all I want is a team/group of players that want to play for the club, manager and each other, and give the supporters something to be proud of.

The last three or four years have not been good.

Rediscovering that warm glow after a good performance and win would be most welcome.

Don't know how many have read the Weekly Bulletin this week, but that was a very interesting article from our Club Chaplin Maxine about how our words matter. Words convey messages - and go a long way to forming perceptions, interpretations, conclusions.

Greenfinch's original posting actually really set me thinking about the use of the word Group. If I'm honest, I am probably in a minority of one who can't get back to Step 3 quick enough. Until yesterday, I was feeling that although we were digging out results away from home, something was not showing itself to be there, and that was an element of true togetherness. My perception. Michael's use of the word "group" to describe our collective didn't feel right to me. But I couldn't figure out why so I have said nothing. Definitely it is not unprofessional, I'll defend him 100% on that.

Then the lightbulb went on. The word Group can feel like a description of detachment, a bunch of random individuals who have been brought together to form a team. You might also refer to the latest bunch of Academy intake lads as a group. Michael manages them as well. Maybe it's more appropriate in that context?

Words words words. The word Team for me gives a message of togetherness and everyone on the same page, very much more than Group does. Yesterday that "Team" dynamic was truly evident for the second time this season - the other time being when the ten men dug in at Royston. For this here supporter of 35 years, the group had become a team yesterday. Yesterday they cared.....really cared.

I hope Michael feels his group is becoming a team and can carry that on Tuesday evening.

I also hope that they can from here on be a team. One point out of six at home needs seriously addressing, but let's hope yesterday was the start of a great season.

Words words words Brian. When it comes down to it, if we get 100 points and a bit of Cup success, I agree with you 100%, call them what you like, so long as I feel they're a team. I want to see, feel and experience a team dynamic - true togetherness, ALL players, Manager, Management Team and Supporters. All for one and one for all. Yesterday was really encouraging. Best feeling away from home since we won at Leatherhead.

Don't want much do I?

Good to see the Forum back in action and so must be time for me to add some stats!

Had a look back at our FA Cup replay history over the last 10 seasons and this'll be the first for 7 seasons. We've won the last two away replays, but lost the last three at home since a 4-2 win over Peterborough Sports.

24-10-2018 2-1 aet @ Leatherhead
25-09-2018 3-2 pens @ Didcot

04-09-2017 2-3 pens v Haringey

19-09-2016 0-1 v Faversham

12-10-2015 1-2 v Enfield Town
14-09-2015 4-2 v Peterborough Sports

Since the turn of the century we have gone through 10 times and gone out 11 times in replays - time to level that record up

Welcome back RST

The game that still haunts me is Hitchin 1 Hastings Utd 2 from 2012 (thank you Goggle).

I was on tannoy that night and Hastings first goal was so far offside it was embarrassing. Still angry about it to this day. :-x :-x

And obviously losing 1-0 to Weymouth in the FA Cup 4th Qualifying Round replay in 2007 when they were Conference. We did everything except beat them in Dorset and should have won the replay.

Oh dear, I'm starting to sound like my dad

I'll add Burnham and Wingate and Finchley to that list Brian. Oh and Clevedon 😭😭😭.

Anyway we have a chance to put the balance right tomorrow night.....bit of belief and our lads have every chance of getting the job done.

Great to see you back RST and great stats... keep 'em coming!

I do miss your Dad so Brian. My abiding memory of his optimistic outlook 😬 - we were 3-0 up against Margate at home in the FA Cup and cruising. When your Dad mentions: "You do know that they overturned a 3 goal deficit in the last round?" About 15 minutes later it was 3-3!!!! Luckily that day our lads pulled out the stops and ground out a 4-3 win, and I think it was that win that sent us to Weymouth in the next round.

Great memories!

Agree great memories. Clevedon the stuff of nightmares. 9 men and still could not finish the job.

Enfield we should have won in the first tie and paid the price in the replay.

Peterborough Sports had only just been taken over around that time so was 2-3 divisions below us but they gave us one hell of a scare.

Course going right back nothing beats that night vs Hereford Utd under the lights.

Pretty sure I was on holiday in Cornwall with a poor mobile signal for the Hastings replay and struggled to get through to my dad to find out the score. I think that was the one where the draw for the next round had given the winners a home tie against the lowest ranked team left in the competition, so we missed out there :gaah:

I see two of the teams mentioned in this thread who knocked us out in recent years came up against each other in a replay this evening. It finished Hastings 0 - 3 Faversham
