Hitchin 1 Barton 1

Post by Peter »

Well, at least we are not loosing every week this season.
But is this really good enough from a Hitchin team with such magnificent support at this level? (Attendance 705 today)

It seems the Rayners Lane game played on an artificial surface two days previously has taken a toll on our group, both Heaps and Franklin suffering injuries? With Rhiney also unavailable, perhaps the draw against Barton will be seen as a good result come season end?

It's tough.

Great to see a great goal from Kye, our first in open play from a Hitchin player since last season.

But the Man City supporter in me this season can't help feeling that it was two points lost. A couple of unfortunate circumstances resulted in Barton drawing level, but those unfortunate circumstances cannot be used in any debate or argument as excuses.

If we are serious about getting out of this league, we are going to have be able to step up a gear if we are not winning and grind out a goal that puts us back in a winning position. I've given up the hope that we'll smash everyone by 6 goals, but whatever the score it needs to be in our favour and three points needs to be the end result, however we do it.
Behaviour breeds behaviour. And establishes a culture.

Definately a draw that feels like a loss.

To be fair it was the best performance I have seen so far this season by a long way.

Alemanji looks a quality forward at this level however we can't expect him to be out wide winning the ball and putting it into the box but also expect him to be in the middle putting the ball in the net. We are still desperately missing a second forward.
Taking nothing away from Kye who took his goal very well and deserves at run at no:10 but I'm not sure he's the long term answer.
It needs a goal scorer who can find the space in the box to put the chances away.

On the plus side we created plenty of chances, the defence and midfield looks pretty solid. I thought Callum Kane and Josh jackman looked excellent as the attacking wing backs but we still lack the killer ball into the box and someone to put the chances away.

Barton created very little and although I feel very sorry for Josh Bowler and hope he makes a speedy recovery as he looks a very good keeper. If he's not fit enough to carry on the management need to recognise it and make the change. If that had happened after he failed to catch a cross a few minutes earlier, we probably would'nt have given a goal away.

Although very disappointed I did come away feeling a lot more encouraged.

Hope Josh is fit for Saturday. Please can we also have a sub keeper on the bench.

Given I got the prediction correct, I must have seen this coming.
